What happened at WSPTA's Legislative Assembly?
The WSPTA advocacy webpage has now been updated to include the issue, principles, and resolutions adopted by members at WSPTA’s Legislative Assembly which was held on October 18-19, 2025. Our PTSA sent two students Lucy Dorer & Joy Rurangwa along with our PTSA Co VP of Advocacy, Tasha Brown.

Delegates at the assembly adopted one new legislative issue “Restoring Funding for Education and Wrap Around Services” that will be added to the WSPTA 2025-2026 short term legislative platform. Delegates also approved two new legislative principles “Budget, Revenue and Funding – Oppose private school vouchers” and “Health and Well-Being of Children and Youth – Food Insecurity.” One new resolution was approved by delegates “18.25 Rights and Services for Immigrant Children,” along with two amended resolutions “2.22 Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies: Use and Safety” and “2.19 LGBTQIA2S+ Safety and Inclusion.” To see the details for any of these issues, principles and resolutions please visit the WSPTA advocacy web page.
We need your stories, we need your voice, and we need you to advocate for public education!
Help make PTA’s grassroots advocacy a success by connecting with legislators about WSPTA's priorities during Focus Day and Focus on Advocacy Week.
- Focus on Advocacy Week is scheduled for January 26-30, 2026. During this week, members can participate in daily email calls to actions. Subscribe to WSPTA Action Alerts.
- Focus Day will be Monday, January 19, 2026 in Olympia and members are encouraged to meet with their legislators about our 2025-2026 WSPTA Legislative Priorities.
Advocacy is not a one-day event; it is an everyday action. And so, we encourage members to continue to stay informed and engaged throughout the year, keeping our efforts focused on the mission. Subscribe to WSPTA's Focus on Advocacy newsletter and watch for updates in the Advocacy section of the WSPTA Blog.
Join us on Dec 19th to directly impact our district's funding
Mark your calendar for Friday, Dec 19th at 8:30am to join us in the MIHS Commons for our last MIHS PTSA membership meeting in 2026! This meeting is especially important as we will be discussing and voting on the proposed resolution attached that supports the passage of the 2026 levy renewal. This levy renewal accounts for about 15% of the district's operational funding and without it our district will face DEEP cuts.
