Juneteenth Celebration at Mercerdale Park BSU Mentorship Program End of Year Celebration
Please save the date on Monday, June 19, 12pm-4pm, for Mercer Island’s Juneteenth Community Celebration at Mercerdale Park. At this event, we will also recognize the Black Student Union Mentorship Program with elementary and high school students. There will be an upcoming communication with more details about the mentorship celebration.
The Juneteenth celebration is being organized by Mercer Island High School’s Black Student Union (BSU) in partnership with the City of Mercer Island. It will be a fun community event for all with kids’ activities, live music, food trucks, and the MIHS dance team performance. For questions, contact: Diversity@mihsptsa.org
Writing for College Summer Workshops
MIHS teachers, Curtis Johnston and David Willecke, are offering the 15th annual Writing for College workshops beginning June 26. Craft your admissions essay in a positive workshop atmosphere with on-demand one-on-one guidance from people who have spent years mastering the personal essay. We will help you write to your audience, maintain authentic voice, avoid the common pitfalls that can lead to automatic denial, and more.
This year we are offering workshops over two weeks, from June 26 to July 7, with online editing and application support available through August 7. Go to https://sites.google.com/view/misummerwriters/registration for more information, including how to register.
All workshops will be held in person at Mercer Island High School this summer. Students will need a device on which to write their essays and to create their Common App and Coalition App accounts. Email questions to misummerwriters@gmail.com
COURTYARD REHAB PROJECT – Postponed
The courtyard has been abandoned for 3 years due to Covid! PTSA needs your help to make it a beautiful place again for our students and faculty. The rehab has been postponed until about late July-early August to allow for the district to come in and provide service to the area first. Stay tuned for more information.
