Your PTSA was proud to support the evening with charcuterie for parents and families, as well as dinner, dessert, and drinks for all the teachers and staff, thanks to a donation from Pagliacci and Macrina Bakery on Mercer Island! (Please thank them and support them, too!) It was exciting to see so many of you spending an evening in the shoes of our high schoolers and meeting their dedicated teachers!

One of the most important holidays and celebrations in Chinese culture, its popularity is on par with that of Chinese New Year. The history of the festival dates back over 3,000 years. Similar festivals are celebrated by other cultures in East and Southeast Asia. During the festival, lanterns of all sizes and shapes – symbolizing beacons that light the path toward prosperity and good fortune for the people – are carried and displayed. Mooncakes, a rich pastry typically filled with sweet-bean or lotus-seed paste, are eaten during this festival. The Mid-Autumn Festival is based on the legend of Chang'e, the Moon goddess in Chinese mythology.

Diwali is the "Festival of Lights," a significant holiday for Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and some Buddhists, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Its significance varies across regions and religions, but most traditions involve the lighting of lamps, decorating homes with colorful rangoli patterns, exchanging gifts and sweets, and spending time with family. This year, we are celebrating Diwali by appreciating our "Gurus" (teachers & faculty) at a special lunch.
