We are so excited for the Senior Assembly this afternoon! We are so sorry that parents and supporters are not invited to come in person, but this is so we reduce the chances of spreading Covid right before the graduation ceremony!

Class 2022 Senior Party Admission is Now On Sale!

After you’ve tossed your cap at graduation and taken all your pictures, come celebrate one last night with your friends and classmates at the MIHS Class 2022 Senior Party! Immediately following graduation on Thursday, June 9th, members of the MIHS Class of 2022 will travel to a secret destination for a night filled with fun and food! Admission includes entertainment, activities, food, games, and transportation. Students will depart on buses straight from graduation and return to MIHS as the sun comes up. All MIHS Class of 2022 graduates are encouraged to attend and Scholarship assistance is available upon request. For more Information, visit the Senior Party page.

Information for MIHS Seniors and Senior Families

Senior Party Chaperones needed.  Get to help the Senior Class celebrate graduation on June 9!  Directly following the graduation ceremony, we need volunteers to chaperone Senior Party.  You can stay the entire night until 6AM or volunteer for half of the night, the first or second shift.  Yes, you can be as physically distant from your child as they’d like!  Thank you for considering.  Please contact Jody Kris at jodymkris@aol.com if you’re interested.

Writing for College Summer Workshops

MIHS teachers, Curtis Johnston and David Willecke, are offering the 14th annual Writing for College workshops beginning June 21. Craft your admissions essay in a positive workshop atmosphere with on-demand one-on-one guidance from people who have spent years mastering the personal essay.  We will help you write to your audience, maintain authentic voice, avoid the common pitfalls that can lead to automatic denial, and more. 

 

Back by popular demand: Two separate series of workshops, June 21 to June 30, or August 8 to August 18, with online editing and application support available for 5 weeks after the end of actual sessions.  Click herefor more information, including how to register. 

 

All workshops will be held in person at Mercer Island High School this summer.  Students will need a device on which to write their essays and to create their Common App and Coalition App accounts.  Email questions to misummerwriters@gmail.com

MIHS Students Take Action

Teens Helping

Donate to the purchase of necessities for family shelters and women experiencing poverty. We are currently collecting to support Jubilee Women’s Center in Seattle. Teens Helping is an organization created and run by three Mercer Island High School Juniors committed to helping other girls and women in the King County area. Click here to donate.

UNICEF Club

After viewing the recent issues in Ukraine the UNICEF Club at MIHS were deeply affected and could not sit and do nothing. We have recently started a fundraiser, run through the UNICEF Organization to raise money for children and families in Ukraine. All proceeds go directly to UNICEF to create emergency relief packages and send fresh sanitary supplies to those in need. Click here to donate.

The International Entrepreneurship class

We are selling custom sticker packs, designed for any college/university that is requested! All the proceeds are going to UNICEF to help Ukranian Refugees. Do you have a graduating senior? Community Opportunities

MIVAL Jr Art Show
MIVAL is excited to announce our 48th Annual Jr Art Show and we invite all school age children, grades K-12 to enter their artwork for cash prizes and exhibition at the Community Center Gallery this summer.  Children are invited to enter up to (2) 2D and/or (2) 3D projects to be judged by MIVAL Artists. Registration is available online using the link below, or through our website at www.mival.org.  Entries are due on July 11th and artwork is due to be delivered on July 16.  The Show will be available for viewing at the Mercer Island Community Center Gallery from July 18- Sept 9. Mercer Island Boys and Girls Club 50th Annual All Island Track Meet
June 10 from 1:00pm-3:30pm
Location: Mercer Island High School Track
We are hosting the 50th Year Annual All Island Track Meet. Come out and support your school and participants! Check in starts at 12:30pm.

 

MISD Inclusive Preschool Program
The Mercer Island Inclusive Preschool Program is located at Northwood Elementary School. Children attend half-day sessions in the morning or afternoon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  Classrooms vary in size, generally ranging from 8 to 12 students with an average of 10, and are taught by a highly qualified group of educators who specialize in early childhood development and education.  Each class is taught by a Washington State certified teacher and up to two trained teacher assistants. Other related service staff (Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist, Physical Therapist and other Education Specialists) are in the classrooms according to the needs of the students in the class. Read more information here.

Community Conversations is a series of programs hosted by the City of Mercer Island and developed by One MI and Do the Work MI, two community groups focused on advancing inclusivity and supporting families of color on Mercer Island. The series is provided with the intention of increasing awareness of issues of racism and inequity, sharing real-life experiences, providing tools & resources, and promoting the value of a diverse Mercer Island community.
