PTSA NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Staff Appreciation Week May 6-10
The Staff Appreciation Team has something fun planned for each day of the week. Please see the descriptions below and learn how you can contribute. Thank you, in advance, for your participation!
Monday May 6th: Bagels & Shmear from Einstein Bros. Bagels (provided by Staff Appreciation Team)
Tuesday May 7th: Kudos Board - take a minute to write a note of appreciation to someone on the MIHS staff - or better yet, have your student do it! Simply click on the link below to post a quick message to a teacher, administrator, coach, custodian, security guard, etc. The message board will be shared with them on May 7th. Click here to sign.
Wednesday May 8th: Wacky Drinks Day - we will stock the staff lounge with unusual/unique beverages. Sign up to provide drinks.
Thursday May 9th: Vietnamese Luncheon (provided by Staff Appreciation Team) Sign up to help or provide flowers/plants.
Friday May 10th: Decadent Desserts To Go - Desserts and to-go boxes provided so staff can have dessert during the day and/or pack a box of goodies to bring home for the weekend. Sign up to provide items.
MIHS PTSA General Membership Meeting & Awards: Tuesday, May 9 @ 9:30a

MIHS Island Books Fundraiser
Continuing their long-standing and generous commitment to Mercer Island School District, Island Books will contribute 15% of all in person or phone sales, including toys, housewares and gift card sales, to Mercer Island High School’s PTSA on Tuesday, May 21st from 9:00am-6:00pm in support of our students, teachers, and school activities. Just in time to celebrate the graduates in your lives with a thoughtful gift and delightful new read! How can you help?? Please sign up to provide sips, treats, or your time.

The Mini-Kitchen is a place where teachers can grab a quick snack for a little extra energy boost. It's one way we keep them encouraged and show our appreciation. Items purchased off of this wishlist will ship directly to the school. Purchase items here.
2024 Grad Grams on Sale Now!
For the past 30 years, family, friends, businesses, and community organizations have sent Grad Grams to Mercer Island students to acknowledge their graduation. Beginning in 2024 we will be focusing this program exclusively on 8th and 12th grade graduates. Order your Grad Gram today!
Nancy Schaps Memorial Grant
Application Deadline: May 31, 2024
The Mercer Island PTA Council is currently accepting applications for the Nancy Schaps Memorial Grant (formerly Scholarship). Until her death from cancer in 1996, Nancy Schaps was an active supporter, through the PTA and other volunteer services, of Mercer Island’s children.
A Grant award of up to $500 will be given to an elementary, middle, or high school student to be used for an activity or other purpose that will aid a child or youth’s adjustment to this difficult life change. For example, the Grant may be used for lessons, a camp experience, a trip, sports equipment, or a musical instrument.

Class of 2024 Grad Night Party
Registration for the Grad Night Party is now available. Early bird pricing available until Friday, April 5- click here for more info and a link to the order form. Senior Activities
The Senior Activities Committee (SAC) has been busy since the start of the school year planning the Grad Night Party and a few other senior activities. As we embark upon a very active graduation season, we wanted to share with you the things we know so far and will commit to sharing additional information as it becomes available. Mother's Day 5k Run
We are Mercer Trade Inc., a student-run business from the International Entrepreneurship class at Mercer Island High School. In cooperation with MIHS ASB and Leadership, as one of our yearly projects, we are organizing a 5K run/walk! You might've heard of us from our earlier project, the Mercer Island Tree Lot, this past holiday season, which had a great turnout!
The event will take place on May 11th, at 2:00 PM, at Luther Burbank Park. We anticipate this to be a very enjoyable and community-building event, benefiting Mercer Island Youth and Family Services and the First Night Project. We hope to see you there! Prom Dresses & Wear Donation
Prom Season is right around the corner. The MI Thrift Stop is looking for donations of prom dresses & wear that you may have tucked away in a closet. Collection will be accepted throughout all of April then put on display. You can drop your donation, Sunday - Thursday 8:00 am - 12:00 pm.

AI + X: Interdisciplinary Artificial Intelligence Fall Program by Stanford/MIT Alumni
Inspirit AI Scholars equips middle and high school students with an AI toolkit to build a capstone project, AI + X, that draws on students' unique interests, from sustainability improvements to cancer diagnosis to criminal justice reform and more.
