Our PTSA endorses the April 22nd Bond Measure!

At the General Meeting this past Thursday, the MIHS PTSA membership voted unanimously to endorse the April 22nd bond measure. 

MISD has proposed a $165 million bond to address capital improvements to IMS; critical infrastructure improvements at MIHS; security improvements at Crest High School; required ADA compliance at the Admin building; and funds to study what improvements should be undertaken at the elementary schools. 

On Mercer Island, our school tax rates are 20-60% lower than neighboring Eastside school districts, and will remain so even if the bond measure is approved.  The taxpayer cost for these essential repairs is $0.45 per thousand dollars of assessed property value or $450 per year per million dollars of assessed property value.  We need a 60% YES vote to pass the measure, and we need to get 40% of voters  who voted in the last preceding general election out to vote. To reach these numbers it will take our MIHS PTSA members to get out in our community and advocate for our students and schools.

1. Get the Facts. Learn more about the Bond measure here.

2. Endorse the bond measure by registering your name here. And ask every registered voter in your community circle to do the same! 

3. Vote YES in April. All voting will be by mail from April 6 to April 22. "Ballots BEFORE Break"- vote before you head off to somewhere warm and sunny.

4. Spread the Word.  Reach out to your friends and family on the Island to secure their endorsement and yes vote. 

5. Volunteer. Consider joining the CMIPS team to help with sign waving, yard signs, doorbelling, stuffing envelopes, etc. Fill out this form to volunteer.
