IT'S TIME TO VOTE FOR THE EP&O LEVY: BALLOTS DUE FEB 10th
Ballots for Proposition 1: Renewal of the Enrichment, Programs, and Operation Levy should arrive in your mailbox no later than Monday, January 26th.
The EP&O Renewal Levy funds 16% of MISD's annual budget. It supports our art, music, drama, athletics, electives, advanced math and science classes, MIHS 7-period, 40% of our Special Education budget, and other enrichment programs. It also funds additional teachers for reduced class-sizes, para-professionals, nurses, academic counselors, and the school resource officer. Without this vital funding, the school district will have to cut beloved programming and staff.
The state allows for an increase of $500 per student this year. The 2027 Levy cap is $16 million, dependent on student enrollment. This is an increase of $4 million over 2026's levy collection. As a result, taxes on an average assessed home ($2.2 million) will increase approximately $330. After this initial increase, there will be a marginal increase due to inflation in subsequent years (less than $100). 100% of levy dollars stay on the Island to support our schools.
Ballots are due February 10th. PLEASE NOTE: If you are mailing your ballot, please mail it no later than 3 to 5 days before the deadline. The US Postal Service is no longer guaranteeing to postmark ballots at the time of delivery.
