Mock SAT/ACT Tests

MIHS PTSA provides 6 testing opportunities as a chance to practice a real test, become familiar with a testing environment, and help identify which testing platform is best for each individual student. All this in a ‘Mock’ situation where tests are not recorded or submitted to any high school or college organization. This is a perfect chance to ‘try out’ these tests.

President’s Letter

Dear MIHS Families:

At long last, another beloved tradition is back this year. It’s Homecoming Week! There are a few modifications to accommodate the restrictions we all have to live with right now, but the fundamentals are happening! One of the big changes is that our homecoming parade will happen in the streets surrounding the high school, rather than downtown. Also, the dance is now a Homecoming Social, which will include the traditional photographer and other activities in the MIHS gym. Yes, it’s not a traditional dance, but it’s still an opportunity to see friends and, importantly, check out what everyone else is wearing :)! More details below

Festivities include:

Homecoming Assembly: October 15 – 1:55-3pm

Homecoming Parade: October 15 – 5:45pm. PLEASE NOTE – The parade route has been changed from previous years! It will NOT be held in downtown MI! It will begin at the HS parking lot on 92nd ST, head North to 42nd ST, then go West on 42nd ST and end in Islander Stadium.

Homecoming Football Game: October 15 – 7pm at MIHS Stadium

Homecoming Social: October 16 – 6:30pm – 9:30pm at MIHS Gym.

In addition to homecoming, don’t forget this is the week that all Juniors will be taking the PSAT this Wednesday, Oct 13. Click here to see the schedule for Oct 11-15.

This Fall’s November 2nd election includes several important local races, including our local school board. We urge you all to be informed and vote! Please mark your calendars for the Election Forum on Oct 12, 7:00-8:30pm Via Zoom. This forum includes candidates running for both the City Council and the School Board. This event is sponsored by the Mercer Island PTA Council and the League of Women Voters.

So many amazing volunteers have been hard at work this fall, including our Staff Appreciation volunteers who planned and executed a delicious homemade lunch for the classified staff who stayed for a full day last Friday, October 8th on our early release day; our passionate Advocacy leaders who are diligently preparing for the upcoming election and Washington State PTA Legislative Assembly; and our New Family Chairs who are working extra hard to reach out to new families so they feel more connected and welcome, and more! On top of this, so many of you are contributing day to day or just being generally on call for the inevitable last minute requests for help. You all play an integral part in helping MIHS meet the needs of all students. You are greatly appreciated!

Finally, we want to thank you all for the incredible response to our membership drive so far! We live in an amazingly generous and supportive parent community and we are so grateful. To date, we have 680 PTSA members – about half of which joined just this past week! We’d love to surpass last year’s membership number of 766. Remember that both your PTSA membership and donation are tax deductible. Also, many companies in our area have a corporate matching program, so please be sure to take advantage of any opportunity to double your support. To join, just go to our Membership Toolkit website. Thank you for your support!

We hope you all have a wonderful week. Go Islanders!

The Bush School – Parent University | October 26 at 5:00pm
Professor Lebowitz is the author of, Breaking free of Child Anxiety and OCD and the Program Director for Anxiety Disorders at the Yale Child Study Center. One in three children experiences a clinically impairing anxiety disorder during their development. Coupled with the escalation of child anxiety during the past two years of the pandemic, anxiety is now the most common mental health concern among youth. This talk will provide parents with
practical tools for helping their child overcome anxiety. Dr. Lebowitz will introduce parents to SPACE, a novel, scientifically supported, and completely parent-based treatment for childhood and adolescent anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
