What’s New This Week!

LEADERS NEEDED: Staff Appreciation Volunteers

We really want to keep the amazing staff at MIHS encouraged throughout the year. They definitely deserve our wholehearted thanks for serving our students amidst a myriad of challenges. The PTSA is in need of a couple of leaders to oversee our Staff Appreciation efforts as well as additional volunteers to support and work alongside these leaders. If willing, please contact Bob Do and Christine Nakano at outreach@mihsptsa.org.

MIHS PTSA Welcome Back Coffee & General PTSA Meeting

Friday, September 10th | 9:00-10:30am, MIHS Lower Commons
Meet the MIHS Principal, Counselors and other MIHS support staff. There will be tables where you can meet representatives and learn more about MI ParentEdge, MI Schools Foundation, MI Youth and Family Services, PTA Advocacy, PTA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and sign up to volunteer. The Coffee is a casual and fun way to learn about all our programs while mingling with other parents. NOTE: Please check in at the MIHS FRONT OFFICE. Street parking is available.

Legislative Summary

Washington State PTAs were active in the recently concluded legislative session. Here is a summary of WSPTA’s legislative wins this session:

• School counselor funding at all grade levels
• Statewide youth tip line for mental health and safety funded
• Funding for two days of paraeducator training

Graduate Grams – a Wonderful Mercer Island Tradition!

It’s time to order your 5^th grader, 8^th grader or graduating Senior a Grad Gram, a 30-year Mercer Island community tradition!  Each Grad Gram is personalized, printed on parchment paper and mailed on your behalf to the student’s home.  Anyone can order a Grad Gram to send a congratulatory message to their deserving graduates.

As optimism increases for a return to normal social activity, it was great to hear that 87% of the Mercer Island population over 16 years old is vaccinated. We also look forward to serving as a host site for vaccinations for those 12 and over tomorrow morning.
